A field trip to the botanic gardens rainforest
On 12/8/09, I went on a field trip to the Botanic Gardens Rainforest. I realised the Rainforest and the nature is an interesting place. When my group reached the Botanic Gardens, we were introduced to our tour guide, Mrs Lee. Mrs Lee taught us the three layers of the forest. It is the Emergant layer, Canopy layer and the undergrowth layer. After awhile on the outside of the forest, we were finally brought to the Rainforest. Mrs Lee showed us many plants in the forest. I was facinated by the Liana, Drip Tips and the Coffin Tree. The Liana is a climber. The Liana uses the twining stems method to climb to the sunlight. I admire the Liana as they never stop climbing until they reach the sunlight. When it rains, Drip Tips will channel the rainwater away from the leaf to the ground. I find the Drip Tips clever as they could reuse the rainwater by taking it in. The Coffin Tree was used to make Coffins. At the Botanic Gardens Rainforest, there was a Johore fig growing on the Coffin Tree. After Mrs Lee told us what will happen in a hundred years time, I thought that the Johore fig is a betrayer as it will take over the Coffin Tree and the Coffin Tree would die. We should preserve the Rainforest as other tourist could enjoy it, keep the animals and plants and could give us education. I enjoyed the trip as i learnt alot more about plants.Even though it was tiring, I hope I could come to the Botanic Gardens Rainforest again.
